CYB811 – Cloud Security

Cloud platforms are increasingly common in modern organisations. They provide valuable data storage, collaboration ability and flexibility; however, they also introduce a new cybersecurity landscape. This unit provides students with knowledge relating to the security challenges and opportunities of multi-vendor cloud platforms as well as public and private cloud environments.  The unit covers foundational knowledge in cybersecurity from a cloud perspective such as data asset management, identity and access management, vulnerability management and network security with special emphasis on incident response. The unit references cloud platforms such as Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Critically reflect on the role and utility of cloud security in the context of contemporary organisations
  • Identify, describe and critically analyse how various types of cloud security risks and threats affect organisations
  • Describe, design and implement cybersecurity mechanisms for cloud applications encompassing infrastructure, platform, application, data and privacy
  • Describe and critically analyse organisational prevention and response to cloud security incidents
  • Critically reflect on how ethics and codes of conduct apply to cloud security
