CYB305 – Cybercrime, Cyberconflict and Cyberwarfare

A global understanding of cybercrime, conflict and warfare is essential to connect all individual components of cybersecurity and to understand strategies and tactics adopted by the adversary to carry out cyber-attacks. The first part of the unit will comprise an introduction to cybercrime principles, techniques and use cases, cybercrime perpetrators, tools for cybercriminal activity and cybercrime investigation processes and incurred costs, as well as an introduction to laws and legal bodies. The second part of the unit will comprise principles of cyberwarfare, adopted strategies, tactics and evolution of cyberwarfare, organisations and their role in cyberwarfare (actions and victimisation), nation roles in cyberwarfare, defences against cyberwarfare and case studies. 

Learning Outcomes:

  • Explain cybercrime concepts, evolution, impact and fundamentals of cyberwarfare and conflict
  • Apply knowledge of legal frameworks and investigation procedures for cybercrime, cyber-terrorism and cyber warfare
  • Analyse cybercrime case studies and scenarios relevant to the national as well as the global context
  • Evaluate cybercrime, cyber conflict and cyber warfare case studies and investigation outcomes and recommend mitigation strategies
