CYB302 – Ethical Hacking

Practical skills in ethical hacking and penetration testing enable practitioners to test the security of their systems, anticipating and resolving vulnerabilities before they can be exploited. The first part of the unit covers the fundamentals of ethical hacking, categories of penetration testing and ethics of hacking and professional behaviour. The second part of the unit provides students with applied knowledge and skills on ethical hacking topics including reconnaissance, adoption of exploit of scanners, identifying and enumerating targets, network/transport layer port scanning and vulnerability scanning.

The third part of the unit comprises exploitation techniques and tools for Windows systems, remote exploitation techniques, client-side exploitation techniques, web hacking and post exploitation. The unit also covers an introduction to Windows exploits and wireless hacking, as well as reporting for ethical hacking activities.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Define and apply ethical hacking techniques for system, process and platform exploitation of vulnerabilities
  • Analyse and illustrate system, process and platform vulnerabilities
  • Evaluate penetration testing tools for conducting ethical hacking activities
  • Design a penetration testing plan and support evaluation of system and platform vulnerabilities
