CYB106 – Cybersecurity Policy and Law

CYB106 – Cybersecurity Policy and Law

Organisations are under increasingly more sophisticated cyber-attacks that potentially expose private information, data and critical infrastructure to corruption. Given this climate, the importance of policy and legal frameworks and the governance of cybersecurity issues have recently come into sharp focus. In this unit, students explore the privacy, policy, ethics and legal challenges arising from cybersecurity. The unit covers policy and legal challenges in responding to breaches, surveilling employees, coordinating internal communications, organising insurance cover for incidents, and assessing the impact of incidents on regulatory changes and commitments. Other related topics covered are ethical hacking, privacy principles and cyberwarfare as they relate to cybersecurity policy and law.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Describe the role and function of law and policy in cybersecurity
  • Analyse the legal and policy dimensions of cybersecurity in organisations
  • Assess a problem of cyberlaw and/or policy by analysing relevant factual, legal and policy issues
  • Conduct a comparative analysis of cyberlaws across two or more jurisdictions
